A man suspected in a home invasion was found dead early Saturday after an armed standoff with law enforcement in Great Falls, an official said,

The Great Falls Police Department and Cascade County Sheriff’s Office responded at 2:43 a.m. to a report of an active home invasion involving a firearm on Gibson Flats Road, Sheriff Jesse Slaughter said in an email. The home's occupants were able to flee the scene, but the suspect remained inside.

The Central Montana High Risk Unit responded and the suspect did not comply with commands from law enforcement, Slaughter said, adding they gave him numerous opportunities to surrender.

Several rounds were discharged from a firearm during the standoff, he said. The suspect was found dead in the residence. His name was not released Saturday.
