Brian Kelly leads LSU to season opener win

Brian Kelly is victorious in the LSU season opener for the first time in his fourth season leading the program. LSU picks up a 17-10 win over Clemson on the road behind a 230-yard performance from Garrett Nussmeier.

LSU will hold on for victory over Clemson

Cade Klubnik's fourth-down pass to T.J. Moore falls incomplete. That's a turnover on downs for Clemson inside the LSU 20. That essentially will end the ball game and LSU will hold on for the 17-10 victory over Clemson.

Harold Perkins applies the pressure and forces Klubnik to make an errant throw.

Clemson driving in LSU red zone

Credit to Clemson; the Tigers aren't going away. Following an LSU punt returned by Clemson to its own 43, Klubnik and Co. are driving to tie the game and potentially send the game to overtime in Memorial Stadium. Clemson faces fourth-and-4 with 1:04 left at the LSU 11-yard line.

LSU punts from Clemson 40

  • Cory Diaz, Lafayette Daily Advertiser:Clemson 27, LSU 24

"Two evenly-matched teams and no team leads by more than one score throughout. Naturally, the game comes down to the final seconds and Clemson, because of the backing of its home crowd, walks it off on a game-winning field goal."

  • Derrian Carter, Greenville News: Clemson 31, LSU 27
