A cruise line group is suing the state of Hawaii , citing that one of its taxes allegedly violates the U.S. Constitution and Federal Law. Non-profit organization Cruise Lines International Association says the state's new "Green Fee" specifically targets cruise ship operators, describing it as massive, novel, and unconstitutional.
So, in addition to simply expressing its displeasure, this association is willing to take the move a step further by heading to the courts.
Cruise Lines International Association Sues Hawaii
The association filed the lawsuit against the Aloha state on August 27. Noting that the Green Fee (which will also be applied to tourists themselves) will be implemented from January 1, 2026, it said it was a violation of the highest law of the land.
