LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - From his seat next to a sacred eagle staff, Oglala Lakota elder Frank Bear Killer smiled watching the Indian Center’s Powwow, bringing in dozens of dancers of all ages representing tribes across the nation.

“That’s an encouraging thing for me, simply because as they grow older, they will be in regalia and keeping up the traditions,” Bear Killer said of the youngest dancers, some wearing non-traditional clothing. “And so right now, like I see about five generations down the road yet that are going to be at least keeping the dancing alive.”

Whether in traditional regalia or not, those dancers took to William Canby Arena to move to the sound of a drum circle during the Indian Center’s 51st annual Powwow on Saturday.
