Police shot a charging dog as officers were investigating an incident involving two pit bulls on Oneida Nation on the Thames, Ontario Provincial Police say.
On Tuesday at about 8 p.m., Oneida police responded to an animal complaint on Bodkin Road, police say. One resident was walking their dog when two unleashed pit bulls charged, police said, adding that the resident was able to make it home and called police.
Police found the pit bulls and one charged at an officer, who shot the animal “to ensure public and officer safety,” police said.
A 71-year-old resident of Oneida was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said, adding that their dog died as a result of injuries it suffered in the attack.
