CEDAR FALLS – Matthew Schecklman threw four touchdown passes and Northern Iowa’s defense made great halftime adjustments as the Panthers pulled away from Butler for a 38-14 victory at the UNI-Dome Saturday in front of 9,079.

The victory was the first for head coach Todd Stepsis in his first season at the helm.

“Overall, super pleased with the team,” Stepsis said. “On the scoreboard it looked pretty good but probably wasn’t as good as the scoreboard looked.

"It is not going to be clean for a first game and a probably a ton of stuff on tape we need to shore up."

UNI (1-0) led just 17-14 at halftime as the Bulldogs, but Schecklman connected with JC Roque Jr., Tysen Kershaw and Ayden Price for second half touchdowns as the Panthers dominated their opponents from the Pioneer League.
