BRIGHTON, Colo. — A man accused of trying to steal one vehicle before swiping another – then firing at police in the ensuing pursuit – has 60 prior arrests on his record and has been sentenced to prison seven times, 9NEWS Investigates has learned.

He was behind bars on Friday, being held on suspicion of attempted murder and other charges in Thursday’s incident that began just after 11 a.m. at a gas station along Bromley Lane in Brighton – and ended several hours later near the U.S. 85-Interstate 76 interchange in unincorporated Adams County.

In between, the 50-year-old man is suspected of firing a gun as he tried to steal a vehicle at the gas station – and then later making off with the car owned by someone he had known for decades.
