DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. — A Pennsylvania man has been arrested for allegedly defrauding Skyline National Bank last year in Mocksville, the Davie County Sheriff’s Office said .

On October 24, 2024, deputies were notified after a business owner discovered more than $100,000 had been stolen from his account the previous day.

Investigators found that the suspect, Dante J. Cardelli, 55, used a fraudulent ID containing the victim’s information but his own photograph to attempt the transaction.

The bank was able to stop a check for $83,837.36 , but Cardelli successfully obtained $18,500 in cash, according to the sheriff’s office.

Cardelli was wanted on charges of felony obtaining property by false pretense, identity theft, and possession/manufacture of a fraudulent ID.
