LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - One historic neighborhood is having a celebration of their own as Lexington celebrates 250 years.

Pralltown is the city’s oldest African American neighborhood.

“We’ve been here. Even before UK got here, we were here,” Pralltown Neighborhood Treasurer, Teresa Forbes Lopez says.

At the center of Lexington’s Downtown sits that neighborhood rich with history.

“When we were brought to this area, this is where we were accepted. Because it was ours,” Forbes Lopez says.

Pralltown’s roots began after the Civil War.

Residents have been fighting to preserve their history after the development company, Subtext, announced plans for a new apartment complex that originally went into the neighborhood.
