Boston Mayor Michelle Wu officially declared Aug. 30 "New Edition Day" as the city honored the legendary R&B group Saturday.

Dearborn Street, where the group was first formed in 1978, was renamed "New Edition Way."

Fans said the tribute to the group's six members, Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, and Johnny Gill, was long overdue.

"New Edition means so much to the community, especially if you grew up here," one fan said. "The legacy that they've left behind is so amazing. To be celebrating them this many years later to mean so much to the community, it's worth it."
