STONINGTON, Conn. (WFSB) - An investigation is underway after a car struck a pedestrian in Stonington on Saturday.

Officers were called to the area of Mason Island Road and Glen Hill Road after a report of a crash involving a pedestrian, the police department said.

It was revealed that a pedestrian was struck and the driver fled the scene.

When crews arrived, they found the injured pedestrian and were directed by witnesses to the suspect vehicle, which was stopped in traffic nearby.

As officers approached the driver, the individual briefly talk with them before deliberately driving his vehicle into a stone wall where the victim was sitting, with other people in close proximity.

Officials said the suspect then fled but was stopped a short distance away by police.
