School buses are back on the roads with Michigan's K-12 schools in session for 2025-26, and officials say drivers need to give them space or they may face civil or criminal penalties.

" Less than 1% of all traffic fatalities involve children on school transportation vehicles. However, children are more at risk when approaching or leaving a school bus," according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. "It’s important for all drivers, as well as parents and students, to understand school bus safety."
