Weather officials say Michigan's Great Lakes are hazardous on Wednesday, Sept. 3, for swimmers and mariners with waves predicted to reach up to 11 feet with strong winds and dangerous rip currents.
" Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions. Do not venture out on piers," the National Weather Service said.
From Benzie County to Allegan County, Lake Michigan conditions are unsafe for swimmers (including beach walkers near piers) as waves will range from 2-6 feet high with rip currents.
Small craft advisories are in place across Lake Michigan as wind gusts are forecast to reach 40 knots (46 mph). Boaters venturing out to deeper waters, stretching from St. Joseph to Manistee, could see 6-11 foot waves, the NWS said.
