HUNLOCK CREEK, Pa. — A community is rallying around a retired firefighter as he battles esophageal cancer.

Organizers say Michael Crawford was recently diagnosed. In an effort to help ease any financial worries, his neighbors planned a rigatoni and meatball fundraiser at the Hunlock Creek Fire Hall on Sunday in Luzerne County .

In addition to dinner, there was also a 50/50 drawing, basket raffles, and a bake sale.

Members of the Hunlock Creek Volunteer Fire Company also posted their support for Crawford on social media. They say they are sad to hear a fellow firefighter has been diagnosed with cancer. They went on to say the Crawford family is in their thoughts and prayers.
