Fairview woman's love of horses leads to rare honor in the saddle

Bonnie Staszak always had a love of horses.

"I never had a horse, but I played with horses," the Fairview Township resident said.

Then Staszak, a retired registered nurse, said she had "empty nest syndrome" in the 1990s when her child went off to college. She turned to horses in filling that emptiness, taking lessons and quickly falling in love with riding.
