COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina’s law looking to curb distracted driving is now in effect.
Enforcement of the change, impacting millions of people every day, begins with a six-month warning period before tickets are issued.
“You can’t be distracted,” Gov. Henry McMaster said at a ceremony marking the new law last month. “It’s just common sense, but sometimes it takes a law to remind everybody of that common sense.”
Under the new law, drivers will be prohibited from holding or supporting a cellphone with any part of their body.
That means no holding the phone to talk, texting, emailing, browsing social media, or watching videos or video calls when driving.
Similar devices, including portable computers, GPS receivers, and electronic games, are also covered under the ban.
