GRAND FORKS — A top World of Outlaws sprint car driver has been fined $500 and put on probation for the rest of the season due to an incident that occurred Aug. 22 at River Cities Speedway.

The circuit said Sheldon Haudenschild made "inappropriate physical contact" with a World of Outlaws official during the feature race.

Haudenschild grabbed and twisted the official's helmet, which caused the official's glasses to break. It also cut the official's face, according to World of Outlaws.

The World of Outlaws announced the punishment on Sunday — Haudenschild's 32nd birthday.

The incident happened on the 19th lap of the 40-lap feature in Grand Forks.

Haudenschild was leading the feature when his car tangled with Skylar Gee's car on the back straightaway.
