Former USC golfer wins SC Women’s Open, Amateur Championship

BLUFFTON — Two different Women’s South Carolina Golf Association championships wrapped up the week of Aug. 10, but the winner was the same.

Sophia Burnett, a former member of the USC women's golf team, took home the trophies for both the South Carolina Women’s Open and South Carolina Women’s Amateur Championship.

On Aug. 10, Burnett secured victories at Blythewood’s Cobblestone Golf Club, where she was both the overall and Amateur Division winner for the Women's Open, finishing with a 5-under-par 208.

Burnett surpassed her competition in the third round, during which she shot a 4-under-par 67. On the front nine of the round she even landed birdies on the third and sixth holes, the tournament's most challenging.
