ORANGEBURG — A box truck that fatally injured a state trooper last month plowed into him at a speed of at least 60 mph, the Orangeburg County sheriff said upon announcing that the truck driver has been charged with homicide.
S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Dennis Ricks died Aug. 13 , three days after the box truck crashed into him while he was conducting a traffic stop along Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County.
The truck driver, Anthony Aydlette, 45, faces an additional charge of reckless homicide, Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announced Aug. 29. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.
“He should have never been driving a motor vehicle in the state of South Carolina or anywhere,” Ravenell said in a news conference.
