SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend Department of Community Investment is sharing its cost saving proposals for 2026.

According to our reporting partners at the South Bend Tribune , the department proposed a 15% program reduction and a 70.2% cut to the Office of Sustainability for the 2026 budget.

These drastic cuts are largely driven by anticipated property tax revenue decreases following the enactment of Senate Bill 1 .

The proposed budget will reportedly terminate the following programs:

Eviction Prevention

Greener Homes

Energy Assistance and Solar Savings Initiatives

In addition to the changes to its strategic initiatives and The Office of Sustainability, the department is terminating six job positions.
