NILES, Mich. (WNDU) - We are just days away from the annual opening of the Niles Scream Park.

The park has become something of a Halloween rite of passage for Michiana youngsters.

The scream park opens Saturday, Sept. 6, for a run that lasts through early November.

Wednesday night was media night, and WNDU 16 News Now immersed ourselves in the phantoms, the shuddering cries and the “clomp, clomp, clomp” coming from shrouded corners.

Ranking a scream park is a subjective exercise, but the numbers speak to the status of this place where ghouls and ghosts lurk in darkened hallways.

The Niles Scream Park is a gigantic 44 acres.

On any given scary night, the place is staffed by as many as 200 volunteers. And here’s an important number: last year, scream park volunteers donated nearly $150
