ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - With more traffic on the highways and more people heading to the lakes and rivers, troopers with Louisiana State Police said accidents are more likely.

They are asking everyone to take simple steps such as slowing down, buckling up, and making sure there is a sober driver or boat operator.

Master Trooper Casey Wallace said planning ahead is important, especially when alcohol is involved.

“Be mindful of who’s going to be driving and who’s going to be drinking. If you are going to partake, have a game plan. Who’s going to be the designated driver? Who’s going to be responsible for the kids?” Wallace said.

He added that families should keep a close eye on children around the water and make sure every child is wearing a life jacket.
