HARTSVILLE, S.C. (WBTW) -- A former farm worker is suing an agricultural manufacturer, alleging that a faulty piece of equipment led to a gruesome accident that severed his hand.
Leroy Green's complaint, filed last week in Darlington County Common Pleas Court, names Georgia-based AGCO and New Idea Corp. as defendants, saying its defective corn picker forced him to rack up more than $200,000 in medical bills.
Green had been working at Tedder Farms in Hartsville for 40 years when on Aug. 29, 2022 when he was operating a corn picker that lacked a piece of equipment which pushed the crop through automatically.
"In addition to the missing chute, multiple cogs in the husking rollers were missing teeth, which caused a jam in the machine," the lawsuit says.
