DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) -- A wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of 15-year-old Heaven Washington is set for trial soon.

The Harrison Township teen was killed in a shootout between a driver from her group home and another party. Washington had been in the vehicle on the way to an ATM for a field trip when the shooting occurred in 2023.

A jury trial is set for Oct. 12, 2026.

The lawsuit claims Reflections Group Home LLC may have missed or overlooked their workers' criminal history, which put Washington in harm's way.

Several people were arrested and charged in connection to Washington's death.
