Coventry City have completed the signing of Ipswich Town defender Luke Woolfenden for an undisclosed fee, in a deal understood to be worth £4million in total, on a three year contract.

The Sky Blues have been in hot pursuit of Hull’s highly-rated centre-back Charlie Hughes this summer but saw a £10m bid rejected just last week before switching their attention back to Woolfenden, for whom they made an unsuccessful bid earlier last month.

The player, who is a product of Town’s Academy, helped the Tractor Boys get promoted out of the Championship to the Premier League in 2024 and went on to play 15 times in the top flight last season.

Although he’s largely provided back-up from the bench this term, head coach Kieran McKenna made it clear that he wanted to keep the defender until Woolfe
