SCRANTON, Pa. — On their Labor Day off, many people soaked in the sunshine and flocked to the Co-Op Farmers Market in Scranton to stock up on the final staples of summer.
“We got lettuce for a good salad tonight. I'm making an appetizer with a burrata, so I need cherry tomatoes. We saw celery, so we got it,” said Ann Rink of Scranton.
With the weather already shifting toward fall, the crops are beginning to do the same.
“Tomatoes, peppers. Another week or couple weeks we'll have the winter squash,” said Jerry Michaels of Ledge Hill Farms.
For some farmers, fall is already in full swing.
“Definitely into the fall mode now. Cider donut season turns right on. Honeycrisp apples, McIntosh apples coming into season this week,” said Logan Brace of Brace’s Orchard.
