SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A young man with autism in Sevier County is helping train deputies on responding to calls involving people with intellectual disabilities.
24-year-old Jacob Collins is a lot of things; a comic book author, a monster jam enthusiast and most recently, an asset to the Sevier County Sheriff's Office.
"Well, it's like I'm kind of a special person," he said. "For sheriffs and officers to know how to interact with people like me."
When he's not cheering for the Sevier County High Schooll football team or working at the local movie theater, he's helping out the sheriff's office. As someone with autism, Jacob is able to help law enforcement better understand how to interact with people like him.
He has attended several training sessions for the county's crisis inte
