OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) — On Monday, the Knoxville-Oak Ridge Central Labor Council held their annual Labor Day picnic at Melton Lake for union members and their families to come together. 6 News spoke with the council and union members about what Labor Day and being an essential worker means to them.

"People kind of think ‘Oh, Labor Day. It’s a day off.’ It's really for us, a day to recognize and remember all of those kinds of past achievements that were really hard won. And a lot of people suffered to make sure that the workers that came after them had better lives and better work
