COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The Pinkerton family lives in the Night Harbor subdivision in Chapin off Lake Murray. Heather Pinkerton is a mother of two and a wife to a disabled veteran. The family moved to Chapin in November of 2024 after Hurricane Helene swept through, leaving them without water or power for weeks.

When they first put the offer down on their home in July, there was a sediment pond right behind their home in a wooded field.

“We were told nothing would be built back here by our realtor,” said Pinkerton.

That sediment pond was later filled and split into five parcels of land according to Lexington County property records. The county says it’s true, there was ponding, but they gave developers permission to fill it in. At the time, according to the Lexington County Land Developme
