UNION CITY, Ga. — Two people were killed and a child was airlifted to the hospital after a crash that happened on Labor Day in Union City, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

GSP officials said a Volkswagen SUV was traveling north on Roosevelt Highway in the right lane when the driver tried to turn left onto Lower Dixie Lake Road and collided with a Chevrolet Malibu traveling south on Roosevelt Highway.

Troopers were called at around 9:18 a.m. to assist Union City Police.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Miriam Tookes, and passenger Ronald Tookes were killed, according to GSP officials. Officials also said a child passenger in the Chevrolet was air-lifted to the hospital with serious injuries.
