Two weeks after agreeing to bring it forward, Loveland City Council will vote Tuesday on an emergency ordinance to place a proposed sales tax increase for homelessness services on November’s ballot.

The measure would ask voters to raise the city sales tax to 3.2% for 10 years, which is projected to generate $4.2 million annually. Revenues would be distributed as grants to nonprofit, faith-based and community organizations to provide homelessness services.

Council first considered the proposal on Aug. 19, when Ward 3 representative Steve Olson introduced it as a new business item. At that meeting, five members said it was worth pursuing, setting the stage for Tuesday’s formal vote.
