EDENTON, N.C. (WITN) - A Confederate monument stood for years in downtown Edenton. However, what you see now in the spot where it once stood on S. Broad Street is nothing but a square in the ground from where it was taken up over the weekend.
Some people we spoke to downtown say they don’t like the fact that it’s being moved.
“They’re changing names of streets. They’re changing monuments,” said Edenton resident Lorraine Brucia. “They’re trying to change history and I’m not in favor of it at all.”
Meanwhile, other Edenton residents say those opposed to the removal are misguided.
“It is kind of rooted in ignorance,” said another Edenton resident, Joey Salomon. “I just kind of feel bad that they don’t understand the point of the statue being taken down.”
