PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- As demolition of Providence's Robert F. Kennedy Elementary School is set to start soon, a former city leader who's an alum reflected on what the school meant to him.
David Salvatore, executive director of the Providence Foundation and a former City Council president, told 12 News Monday the building is full of memories for him.
According to the city's school district, plans are to build a new building that will house a pre-K through Grade 8 school.
Currently, students have been relocated to Esek Hopkins Middle School while the project is underway.
Salvatore reflected on his time at RFK Elementary, while also describing a walkthrough that faculty and former students made Sunday before the doors officially closed.
