PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A memorial is still standing for the 7-year-old girl who was shot and killed in Providence one year ago.

On Aug. 29, 2024, Providence police said 7-year-old Ny’eil Pires was shot in the backseat of a car on Florence Street .

She was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital, where she later died from her injuries on Sept. 2, 2024.

Police said on Aug. 29, her father, Nelson Pires, got into an argument with two other people, leading to the gunfire that killed his daughter.

Surveillance video shows two men allegedly firing at Pires’ car after he allegedly drove at them.

Those two suspects, Ahmari Cabrera, of Providence and Shaheem Nathaniel, of Cranston were charged with murder in connection to her death .
