MIDDLEBORO, Mass. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a two-alarm fire broke out in Middleboro early Monday morning.
Crews responding to the scene on Everett Street just before 3 a.m. found the multi-family home fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters entered the home and found a 91-year-old woman who was unable to escape, officials said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other occupants got out on their own before firefighters arrived and were not injured, according to officials.
"This was a tragic situation. Unfortunately, this was the third fatal fire within two years in the Town of Middleborough," Chief Owen Thompson said. "However, our firefighters responded professionally. They did an excellent job attacking the fire and aggressively extinguishing the flames, esp
