EUGENE — Mike Gundy’s remarks about Oregon’s spending elicited a response from Dan Lanning ahead of their nationally televised Power Four matchup.

Gundy made repeated references to Oregon spending “a lot of money” on its football program on Monday, including during his weekly radio show. He estimated Oklahoma State spent $7 million on name, image and likeness (NIL) compensation for players over the past three years combined while Oregon “spent close to $40 (million) last year alone.”

That figure, which is drastically overstated, was in part of Gundy’s response to a question regarding nonconference scheduling strategy in light of financial disparities between programs.
