LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A young girl is dead and two people, including her mother, are facing charges after a drunk driving crash on Labor Day.

Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) said the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. Monday after two cars, both traveling on the Gene Snyder Freeway, crashed near New Cut Road.

Investigators determined a Dodge Durango, driven by 34-year-old Renaldo James Gill, hit the other vehicle, a Jeep Compass, driven by 31-year-old Jasmin Simpson.

The crash caused Simpson’s vehicle to roll over and cross the median into the southbound lanes before stopping. James’ car was found off the freeway near a wooded tree line.
