ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A former state police officer is now accused of drug trafficking. Last month, a state police officer pulled over Carlos Antonio Perea and Catherine Anne Schmidt.
During the traffic stop, police say the two were giving conflicting stories, leading to a K9 search. Police say the K9 found about 140 pounds of fentanyl in the car and its tires.
Perea was released from custody to a halfway house. He is facing charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. According to state police, Perea retired in 2019.
