KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The West Virginia Department of Transportation finished up most of the work on the Jefferson Road project Friday, and drivers are finally getting some relief.

“Oh, it’s very quiet and peaceful,” Philip Martino said.

South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullens said, “Everything seems to be pretty much opened up. We’ve got a few little things still to get done.”

Mullens added, “I thought to myself on the way out, man, this is such a great improvement.”

Crews finished up striping and paving the new bridge connecting U.S. 60 and U.S. 119, opening up five lanes on Jefferson Road to help ease congestion.

“During the construction phase, I always tried to avoid where traffic was,” Martino said.
