AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — More than 800 new laws went into effect across Texas on Monday, reshaping policies on education, elections, criminal justice, and health care.
Among the most notable changes is Senate Bill 2 , commonly referred to as the “school choice” bill, which permits parents to utilize public tax dollars to cover the cost of private school tuition. Eligible students could receive more than $10,000 per year, while students with disabilities may qualify for up to $30,000.
Another measure, Senate Bill 10 , requires the Ten Commandments to be displayed in classrooms.
