MANSFIELD, La. -- A Mansfield man involved in a shootout in a parking lot that injured a child sitting in a car was convicted over the weekend in DeSoto District Court of two felony charges that will keep him in prison for 10 or more years.
The DeSoto Parish jury deliberated for 23 minutes before returning with a verdict around noon Saturday, finding Shunski Roberson guilty as charged of illegal use of a firearm during a crime of violence and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile.
He'll return to District Judge Nick Gasper's courtroom on Nov. 10 for sentencing. The firearms charge carries a sentence of 10 to 20 years; the juvenile cruelty charge, up to 40 years.
Gasper allowed Roberson to remain out on bond until his sentencing date.
