POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Republican Election Commissioner Erik Haight and his counterpart, Democrat Lisa Jessup, are at odds over Haight’s recent refusal to vote on an issue. The two had met after an objection to the Town of Washington GOP caucus was filed with the Board of Elections (BOE).
The two commissioners were supposed to vote on whether the Washington caucus was valid, despite the caucus notice, required by state law to be filed and posted at the BOE, not having been done.
A similar issue had occurred with the Red Hook Democrat caucus recently, and both Haight and Jessup voted that a new caucus was required, and subsequently held.
