NEWBURGH – Fire Monday evening destroyed an abandoned building at 42 City Terrace in the City of Newburgh.

Four firefighters sustained minor injuries, refused medical treatment and have recovered.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy flames coming from the rear and thick smoke billowing into the sky.

Due to the deteriorated condition of the building, firefighters were unable to attack the fire from the interior, so they attacked from the exterior to reach difficult-to-reach pockets of fire. Crews first had to cut through a chain-link fence to gain access to the rear of the building.
