A late phone call from Ireland assistant manager John O’Shea in the summer meant that one footballer had to change his holiday plans, cancelling a pre-arranged trip to Malta to instead fly somewhere less glamourous and with no beaches, little old Luxembourg.

And even though Bosun Lawal didn't get on the field of play for that June friendly, instead leaving the ground as an unused sub in a dull 0-0 draw, the Dubliner says he’s grateful for the support shown to him by O’Shea and boss Heimir Hallgrimsson which helped him get through hard times.
