The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says 10 wildfires remain active on Vancouver Island, ranging from small spot fires to larger blazes, and all are now classified as either “being held” or “under control.”

BCWS defines “being held” as a fire “that is projected, based on fuel and weather conditions and resource availability, to remain within the current perimeter,” while “under control” means a fire is not projected to spread beyond the current boundary.

Four small wildfires were discovered Sunday and Monday in the area of Gold River and Strathcona Provincial Park following a weekend thunderstorm, according to BCWS.

The Magee Creek fire, 0.009 hectares in size, is listed as being held while six firefighters remained deployed as of Monday night.
