OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day in 1878, Creighton University was founded.

The private Jesuit school was formed by the Society of Jesus through a gift from Mary Creighton in memory of her late husband, Omaha businessman Edward Creighton.

The college started with just 120 students, but has since grown to over 5,000 in the 2024-25 school year.

This past August, the university welcomed the largest freshman class in school history .
