Officials are investigating an incident involving two small aircraft that crashed at Fort Morgan Municipal Airport in Morgan County, Colorado, over the weekend, leaving one person dead and two others injured.

Multiple agencies responded to the report of the crash on Sunday, Aug. 31, according to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office .

The planes, a Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeubau EA300, collided while trying to land just before 11 a.m., the Federal Aviation Administration said on its website.

According to the sheriff's office, the planes caught on fire. There were two people in each aircraft at the time of the incident.

Footage published by news outlet Denver 7 showed the aftermath of the crash, including a damaged plane and the ground covered in black smoke.
