HAZEL PARK, MI – A homicide investigation is underway after a woman and a 12-year-old boy were found dead in Oakland County.

According to the Hazel Park Police Department, both the child and the 41-year-old woman, both from Hazel Park, sustained apparent trauma at the residence on Berdeno Avenue.

Police responded to the scene at 4:15 p.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 1. There is no danger to the public, police said.

Hazel Park Schools said the child is a student at the middle school. Staff released a statement to parents on Monday regarding the investigation, noting that mental health professionals are available for students and staff.
