CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Labor Day gas prices reached a five-year low for the holiday both in South Carolina and across the country.
The average price of gas in South Carolina dropped 1.7 cents per gallon in the last week for an average of $2.78 per gallon.
Those prices are less than a penny per gallon higher than a month ago and 15.1 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
Additionally, it’s the lowest gas price average for Labor Day weekend since 2020, which saw prices at $1.98 per gallon.
Across the state, the lowest available gas price was $2.51 per gallon while the highest was $3.89 per gallon.
As for the Lowcountry, the cheapest gallon of gas, not accounting for cash prices, was going for $2.59 at the Mount Pleasant Circle K located on the 1400 block of Ben Sawyer Road.
