GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - A Grand Island man arrested after a three-hour stand-off last week now faces felony criminal charges.
Court records show 64-year-old Dennis Acker is charged with kidnapping, intentional child abuse and obstructing government operations.
Police arrested Acker last Wednesday after a tense three-house standoff.
Grand Island Police said officers were assisting the Department of Health and Human Services with the removing a child from Acker’s home near Sixth and Adams streets. GIPD said Acker refused to cooperate, barricaded himself inside the house, and threatened officers with a knife.
After about three hours, the boy was released. Police arrested Acker a short time later after shooting impact rounds and throwing non-lethal gas canisters into the house.
